nineteen![]() Nineteen 19 Grape Lane serves traditional English dishes using local North Yorkshire produce. Situated not far from York Minster in the old quarter of York. Grape Lane gets its name from 'Grope Lane' which was a name used in the middle ages where prostitutes conducted their business. Number 19 itself used to be a banana warehouse. A snicket/passageway or 'snickleway' as the locals call them, is next to this restaurant, which takes you through to Coffee Yard and Barley Hall before joining Stonegate. York is full of ghost stories and this snickleway is said to be haunted with ghost walks passing most nights.
Recommendations “ The belly pork was the best I had ever eaten, the black pudding and delicious egg was the most fantastic, tastiest starter! The view from table nine was the best in York. 10/10 ” joe mclaughlin ~ 19 Dec 10 “ The best place in York to eat by far, not a massive menu. I like a small menu, then I know everything is fresh. Also liked the local produce. I have to say that is the best steak I ever eaten and I cant wait to go back. You Must go to this restaurant and ask for table 9, the view over the street and the people watching, I loved it. Perfect day and perfect food. ” Phoebe ~ 29 Jun 10 “ Enjoyed a wonderful Saturday evening here indulging in all three courses and a couple of bottles of wine. Service was excellent and the prices very reasonable. I hope to return sometime in the future. ” janice ~ 19 Jan 10 “ What a fantastic night the staff are really friendly and the food is out of this world ! Compliments to the chef. Will be definitely going back five stars... ” Andyleigh3000 ~ 2 Jan 10 “ We have eaten here twice in the past month, the second time (Lunch) because the first time (Dinner) was so good. The menu is varied and very interesting, the food superb and the service electric. We were made to feel very welcome and were lucky enough to get the first floor window seat .. a bonus! ” Pamela ~ 23 Mar 09 ~ 5 Stars
