Plunkets
Plunkets
9 High Petergate, York YO1 7EN Tel. 01904 637722 show on map Plunkets has been in York for many years now and is situated in Petergate, which is just around the corner from York Minster. The old building is what attracts many into this cosy restaurant/bar. Dating to around 1640, this timber-framed property was built for the local doctor as his principal residence. Although records are a little vague, there is evidence of the Terry family, famous local chocolatiers, owning the property in order to make and sell their confectionery. Customer Reviews Food average not what we expected don't think its right not being able to book surely 2 diners are better than none? sorry but you've lost this 2. Dec 07 / 3 Stars
We used to dine in Plunkets a lot & for the first time in a while went there this week. It was very quiet & not the same atmosphere as it used to have. The food was average & the wine is overpriced by at least 25% compared to other York restaurants. The staff are friendly enough but not particularly interested e.g. didn't ask if we wanted to taste the wine & not bothered when I queried why my Burrito was minced meat instead of pieces of steak as it used to be. Can only presume it has changed owner &/or chef. They could do with passing out customer comments cards with the bill & taking note of feedback. We feel they are relying on location & past reputation. Dec 2007 / 2 Stars
York has just had the misfortune of Gourmet burger kitchen opening. You will get a burger here or at Oscars wine bar that is the real deal. Plunkets offers a great deal of choices and a wonderful night out. Nov 2007 / 5 Stars Excellent
Went to Plunkets, disappointed that you can't book for numbers of less than 6. We went anyway at 8pm and put our names down, we waited for an hour in the upstairs bar. The staff were all very friendly. We started with chicken wings (a very large portion) and chicken wontons, which were both very nice. However, the description of the chicken wings were described as chicken fillets, however it was a minced chicken filling! We followed this course by steak, chips and mushrooms and two fajitas, one chicken and one minced steak, served with spicy rice, both very nice. We decided on sticky toffee pudding with cream. This was simply the best sticky toffee pudding that either of us had ever eaten. If was big enough to share. I will visit here again when next in York. Its a shame they don't take bookings though, I'm sure they lose trade because of this. Something for them to maybe re-think. Nov 2007 / 4 Stars, Good
Stopped for an evening meal, the experience was fantastic, the food was excellent, staff very friendly. We went in October and the place got extremely busy after 7pm, book or you'll be waiting for an hour. Overall very good. October 2007 / 4 Stars Good
