Living Room York

The Living Room Bar & Restaurant
Merchant Exchange, 1 Bridge Street, York YO1 6DD
Tel: 01904 461000

The Living Room in York has a large restaurant and bar, situated on the first floor of the Merchant Exchange development adjacent to Ouse Bridge & The Queens Hotel (right bank on top photo). This period building was derelict for years until it was redeveloped into stylish apartments and bar we see today.

The restaurant focuses on sourcing the best quality ingredients, preparing them simply and delivering bags of flavour and texture on the plate. This is good, honest, robust and stylish food with its origins firmly in the European tradition. The Living Room in York also has a number of tables situated on the outside balcony with fabulous views of The River Ouse towards King's Staith and The King's Arms pub. Panorama of Kings Staith.

The Living Room, is a fantastic bar and restaurant. The food was delightful and we felt completely welcome - from the greeting at the front door right through till we left, with a very warm farewell. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

What a fab find! I have just moved to York and this is the best restaurant I have found. Food is fresh, tasty and a very varied menu. Don't forget to try some of their cocktails also!

The Living Room in York is well worth a visit. The menu is consistent, the staff very friendly and attentive and has one of the better locations with good views of the river and city. The 'Silver Mercedes' cocktail is a must-have!!

SILVER MERCEDES - Absolute Kurant vodka, cranberry juice, mango sorbet & Champagne!

I have been in the living room so many times, its a friendly lively atmosphere. More care could be taken when pouring spirits into cocktails! as there expensive and I don't want half a shot! I've had good meals in there and only ever once was served a cold meal. Though it was replaced after a while. The staff seem to walk round with a chip on their shoulders like they are much better then other restaurant staff, which is funny to watch.
