This month, Read Write York will host the premiere of ‘The Middle Yard’, an epic storytelling event and sequel to last year’s sell-out performance, ‘The Twisting Field’ on Saturday 12th April at the NCEM.

‘The Middle Yard’ is an exceptional story of leadership, power, corruption and ambition, brought vividly to life by two of the UK’s finest professional storytellers, Nick Hennessey and Simon Heywood, who weave the tale in between original songs played on harp and guitar. Three Men In A Boat
Written by Jerome K. Jerome / Directed by Paul Burbridge
Designed by Sean Cavanagh / Adapted for the stage by Paul Burbridge
York Theatre Royal and Riding Lights Theatre Company.

Ever been on a disastrous summer holiday? Three Men in a Boat will make yours seem like a honeymoon picnic. Jerome’s classic comedy comes roaring to life in a delightfully accident-packed evening as three men take a boat trip up the Thames in 1889. Through a series of hilarious mishaps and ineptitudes, a healthy rest-cure on the river goes badly adrift.

Splendidly adapted from what is arguably the funniest book in English literature, the renowned trio of ‘young fogies’, Jerome, Harris and George, give you a comic cavalcade of escapist diversions – everything from the affair of the strong cheese on a crowded train to Harris’s farcical attempts to sing a comic song at a polite dinner party. An ingenious production, with a masterpiece of a boat. A brilliant evening for everyone in the holiday mood – shot though with classic music hall songs from the Victorian period. More Info

York Minster Art Show and Auction

Saturday 29 March to Friday 18 April
Location: North Transept of York Minster.
York Minster has been a magnet for artists for many centuries and is still an inspiration for many people. It has among its own community a whole host of talented painters:  from members of the congregation, to the Minster’s Surveyor of the Fabric and a former Archbishop of York. These and many more who love the Minster will be supporting the York Minster Revealed project by displaying their own works based on their interpretation of the building they love in an exhibition in the Minster.

Artist Ruth Demack

Auction: Friday 18 April 2008

18 artists, all associated with York Minster in some way, have produced works expressing their feelings on York’s own wonderful Cathedral. The paintings will then be sold at an auction to be held in the Minster on the evening of Friday 18 April 2008. The varied styles and methods of all the artists involved in the exhibition mean this will be a truly unique display and the only chance to see these varied interpretations of York Minster together. At the auction, Jake Attree, well known Yorkshire Painter, will speak about his love of the Minster and how it has inspired his work. Tickets for Jake Attree’s talk and the auction of paintings will cost £5 and are available from Church House Reception, Ogleforth, York YO1 7JN
Tel: 01904 557208 or on the night in the Minster.

The proceeds from the auction of the artworks will go towards the York Minster Revealed project, which will open up the beauty of the Minster and increase craft and skills training in stone masonry and stained glass conservation.
