Tis The Season To Be Festive

City of York Council is marking the start of the festive season with hundreds of new pea-lights, 250 four-foot real trees and 32 large trees illuminating the city centre.

A full season of Christmas events will start in November and will mark the beginning of a range of seasonal events, including festive markets, late-night shopping and the York Christmas programme.

Late Night Shopping: Grab those festive ‘must-haves’ from those city centre shops which are staying open late. Every Thursday up to Christmas.

Children's Christmas Fayre: Starts off the festive season with market traders specialising in items for children of all ages.

St Nicholas’ Fayre: The traditional festive weekend in the city centre offers everything from gifts and crafts to the best of local produce.

Enjoy a night of fantastic festive food and the heart-warming film Elf on the big screen this Christmas at a special screening in the Yorkshire Museum’s cinema. Mince pies, a full Christmas themed buffet and a festive drink will be served while carols are played in the atmospheric surroundings of the Medieval Gallery at the Yorkshire Museum.
Guests will then sit back and relax at a one off screening of the cult Christmas classic Elf, on the full size cinema screen in the museum.
There will be a Christmas gift fair in the Hospitium, also in the York Museum Gardens, and the Yorkshire Museum shop will be offering a 20 per cent discount on ideal Christmas gifts to those who attend.

Jennifer Cork, Wedding and Events Supervisor for York Museums Trust, said: “We think there is no better way to get your-elf into the Christmas spirit than eating fantastic Christmas food and watching the brilliant Elf. Our caterers Bradshaws have created a delicious festive menu, including, chargrilled turkey breast Caesar wraps, brie and cranberry filo baskets and of course mince pies. Then the heart warming story of Elf will be shown on our big screen for one night only – book you tickets now!”

For the film and buffet, doors open at 6.30pm and the film starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 and can be bought by phoning (01904) 687671 or by emailing yorkvenues@ymt.org.uk

All money raised will be put towards the care of the buildings and collections at York Art Gallery, the Yorkshire Museum, York Castle Museum and York St Mary’s, which are looked after by York Museums Trust.

The annual free festival where ice sculptures line the old streets in The Quarter area of York. With guaranteed snow, street entertainment, festive music, food and drink, boutique shops and good cheer for all. The Quarter is a patchwork of old Medieval streets including; Grape Lane, Swinegate, Back Swinegate and Little Stonegate.
