Tis The Season To Be Festive
City of York Council is marking the start of the festive season with hundreds of new pea-lights, 250 four-foot real trees and 32 large trees illuminating the city centre.
A full season of Christmas events will start in November and will mark the beginning of a range of seasonal events, including festive markets, late-night shopping and the York Christmas programme.
Late Night Shopping: Grab those festive ‘must-haves’ from those city centre shops which are staying open late. Every Thursday up to Christmas.
Children's Christmas Fayre: Starts off the festive season with market traders specialising in items for children of all ages.
St Nicholas’ Fayre: The traditional festive weekend in the city centre offers everything from gifts and crafts to the best of local produce.

York Early Music Christmas Festival brings the cream of Early Music performers from across the UK to celebrate the glorious music of Christmas in the festive surroundings of York. This year's diverse programme features music from the Renaissance through to the present day with guest artists including The Cardinall's Musick, Brecon Baroque directed by Rachel Podger, The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments, Sirinu, The Ebor Singers, The Carnival Band and Joglaresa.

Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 December 2011 Stunning Ice Sculptures
The annual free festival where ice sculptures line the old streets in The Quarter area of York. With guaranteed snow, street entertainment, festive music, food and drink, boutique shops and good cheer for all. The Quarter is a patchwork of old Medieval streets including; Grape Lane, Swinegate, Back Swinegate and Little Stonegate.
The heart of the city centre will be transformed into a winter wonderland of ice sculptures, stalls, al fresco dining, street entertainment, live ice-carving and guaranteed ‘snow’ showers. Saturday 10 December from 11am until 6pm and Sunday 11 from 11am until 5pm, across the streets of Swinegate.
