McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet and The Ice Factor announce the arrival of Yorkshire’s first ever Winter Wonderland, which will see a 900sqm real ice rink as the centre piece of a magical transformation at the designer outlet this Christmas 2011.

The Winter Wonderland will launch at the designer outlet on 26th November 2011 until 8th January 2012 and will include a giant 30ft Christmas tree in the centre of the ice rink, 20 beautifully styled traditional log cabin stalls offering everything from handmade gifts to festive food and an illuminated reindeer forest. Adding to this will be some festive fun from an authentic British fun fair offering a variety of traditional fair rides, such as a chairoplane, a helter skelter and a ferris wheel, as well as the opportunity for children to visit Father Christmas in his grotto.

The Ice Factor

York's most popular Christmas attraction, the outdoor ice rink, The Ice Factor, returns this November to its new location at McArthurGlen's York Designer Outlet, celebrating its seventh successive season in the historic city.

Located at the rear of the Designer Outlet, the award-winning Ice Factor promises to be better than ever this year as the ice rink will become the centre piece for a Yorkshire Winter Wonderland, encompassing a Christmas market of 20 wooden chalets and a traditional fun fair with a big wheel, helter-skelter and chairoplane as well as children's rides and game stalls all adding to the festive magic.

As the area undergoes its theatrical transformation, The Ice Factor's 900sqm real ice rink will be turned into a Winter Wonderland village square complete with a giant 30ft-high Christmas tree in the centre of the rink, and bordered by an illuminated forest with log cabins and reindeer, a skate hire marquee, a public viewing area and the heated Ice Bar & Cafe.

Torvill & Dean Launching Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland at McArthurGlen York

McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet and the Ice Factor are thrilled to announce that Torvill and Dean, former Olympic and World champions, will be launching Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland event at the designer outlet, on Saturday 26th November.

Torvill and Dean became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time after achieving twelve perfect 6.0’s at the 1984 winter Olympics. Bringing skating to the forefront of the British public, the skating duo fast became and remain one of Britain’s best loved couples, starring in ITV’s Dancing on Ice.

At 6pm on the evening, the skating champions will be turning on the 30ft Christmas tree lights, positioned in the centre of The Ice Factor 900sqft ice rink, as well as taking to the ice to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

The Winter Wonderland, which is open from Saturday 26th November until 8th January 2012, will also include traditional fair rides and 20 beautifully styled traditional log cabin stalls offering everything from handmade gifts to festive food, all surrounding the ice rink.

As well as exclusive offers from over 120 leading designer and high street brands, including Calvin Klein, Kurt Geiger and LK Bennett, all at up to 60 per cent less, there will be exclusive performances from local champion figure skater Toni Murray (currently ranked third in Britain under 19’s) and the opportunity to watch Santa arriving to his grotto. MCARTHURGLEN’S YORK ICE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Following the launch of Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland, McArthurGlen’s York Designer Outlet announces its first ever Ice Skating Championships. The championships, spearheaded by Great British international skater Toni Murray will offer local skaters a platform to showcase their skating skills on The Ice Factor’s 900 sq/m ice rink found in the heart of Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland.

The Ice Skating Championships will take place over 12 days, from Monday 19th – Saturday 31st December, excluding Christmas Day, at The Ice Factor, located at McArthurGlen’s York. The Championships will start with a first round, where skate scouts will select one person daily during the 10.30am skating session to go through to the Ice Skating Championship Final on Sunday 8th January 2012.

The final round will see 12 competitors taking part in a freestyle skate off where they will compete in front of local skater Toni Murray, who ranked 2nd winning the silver medal at the 2010 British championships. Toni will judge the best of the 12 selected skaters to win a trip for two to watch The Imperial Ice Stars Swan Lake on Ice, a world-class award-winning adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s ballet, at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The prize will also include travel and accommodation for two.

The expansive ice rink has a giant 30ft Christmas tree at the centre and is surrounded by 19 beautifully styled traditional log cabin stalls offering everything from handmade gifts to festive food. In addition, visitors can expect festive fun from an authentic British fun fair offering a variety of traditional fair rides, such as a chairoplane, games stalls and a ferris wheel, as well as the opportunity for children to visit Father Christmas in his grotto.

To take part in the Ice Skating Championships, entrants must be over 14 years. Tickets to skate on the ice during the scouting sessions at 10:30am range from £8.50 for children and concessions to £9.50 for adults.
