The York Literature Festival celebrates the rich and diverse literary activity in the York area. The second York Literature Festival will run from 1st March until 15th March 2008, including World Book Day (6th March) and International Women's Day (March 8th). There will be two weeks of storytelling, workshops, taster sessions and events taking place in and around York. This Easter sees the opening of three new studios at York Castle Museum which have been built and designed to host demonstrations, activities and events.
Each studio is in a different area of the museum and has a different theme.
Come and see them for yourself, from 20th March, 2008.
Pace Eggs – In the Kitchen Studio
20 March – 6 April. 10am – 4.30pm
Find out about the tradition of Easter eggs with a look at Pace Eggs, boiled eggs decorated to celebrate Easter, and see a selection from our collection dating from the 1890's.
Heavy Metal – In the Military Studio
20 March – 6 April. 10am – 4.30pm
Explore the uses and design of armour, helmets, swords and other weapons over the centuries with a look at some fascinating examples from our stores.
Getting Dressed – In the Costume & Textiles Studio
20 March – 17 April. 10am – 4.30pm
Discover the art of getting dressed as a Victorian lady with a look at accessories such as gloves, glove stretchers, button-hooks and dress adjusters.

The Great 'Guerilla Drive-In'
March 2008
Science City York is planning a series of short 'drive-in' showreel evenings across North Yorkshire in March 2008. The screenings will take place in different and interesting locations and will highlight the breadth of creative digital talent in the area.Each screening will consist of a selection of short movies followed by a feature-length film to conclude the evening. We are therefore looking for submissions from our Creative and Digital artists who would like their work to be included in the screenings. We are looking for movie shorts of 10mins max and feature-length movies of 60mins-90mins duration. The content should be suitable for family viewing.

York International Festival of Digital Arts
13–16 March 2008

SightSonic – York International Festival of Digital Arts brings top acts to the city for its 8th outing. There is a UK premiere for Kozo Inada (Japan) and a York first for Christophe Charles (France). UK artists include People Like Us, Ergo Phizmiz and, with a new live soundtrack to their legendary ‘Brilliant Noise’, Semiconductor.
There will be a day of free seminars led by headline artists including Vicki Bennett (People Like Us) and Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt (Semiconductor) and other industry professionals. This day has been organised in partnership with Science City York and is part of the drive to enhance skills and opportunities in the creative economy. The seminars are aimed at anyone with an interest in furthering their skills and experience in digital arts and will offer a fascinating insight into the practice of some of the UK’s leading artists.
The Artists’ Platform returns with a showcase of new and emerging artists from across the UK and two former contributors – Jonathan Green and Maggie Hall - bring new work to the main programme. Up and coming composer Jonathan will present his new sound work ‘Piece for large metal sheet’ at the C4C Chapel at York St John University.
City Screen will again host artworks in the bar, gallery and Sky Lounge. These will include ‘Template’, curated by Joe Gilmore and Christopher Murphy and featuring digital imagery by Mark Fell, 3.14…, Alorenz, Tina Frank, Dextro and others. New video works by Maggie Hall will be shown in the Sky Lounge. In 3 Blake Street and Blacks, Angie Atmadjaja will install her new sound painting ‘States of Being’.
The SightSonic Club returns to Kennedy’s Cafe Bar with Mr 76ix and artists from York and the North East for a late Saturday night.
