The Grand Hotel & Spa, York
The Grand Hotel & Spa, York – Yorkshire’s only AA-rated five-star hotel – is celebrating Jorvik Viking Festival (12-18th February) and will be treating York visitors and locals to a feast like no other at ‘The Grand Viking Feast’.
On Thursday 16th February, guests are invited to an evening of feasting and fun. Created by award-winning Head Chef Craig Atchinson, the feast is designed to illustrate the best of contemporary Nordic cuisine. Visitors will be able to indulge on smoked loin of middle white pork with pickled turnips, honey and mead dressing, salmon and dill gravadlax with baked beets, dill and sweet mustard, salad oxogarita and sour dough with butter for starters. For main course there will be Viking lamb leg, beef and corn-fed chicken with honey glazed carrots, rutabaga cubes, fenkel in soppes and roasted new potatoes, all presented on large sharing platters in the centre of the table.
The Grand Viking Feast will commence at 7pm with a toast of Mead to Thor, the God of thunder followed by beautiful Norse-inspired live music. During the evening, visitors will also be able to view re-enactments of Viking sword-fighting and learn their different techniques.
The feast will take place in The Grand Boardroom, which will be decorated with heather flowers, fur throws, along with longboats created by children from Hob Moor Oaks School.
The Grand Viking Feast is £75 per person and includes a drink on arrival, along with a three-course meal. The event is adults only and booking is necessary as spaces are limited.
