At the age of 29, the proud and beautiful Hedda has “danced herself out” and marries dull academic George Tesman in the hope of continuing the lavish, social lifestyle she is

accustomed to.

On returning from their honeymoon the news come that academic rival Eilert Loveborg has published a book of great significance, casting doubt on the newlyweds financial security

and leaving Hedda no future but one of excruciating boredom. As ghosts from the past return to haunt and the walls begin to close in, Hedda’s only route to freedom is to kickstart.
