York Festival of Ideas 2020 has moved online to educate, entertain and inspire you from the comfort of your own home. The packed programme of mostly free events includes talks from world-class speakers, interactive Q&As, family activities, workshops, performances and walking trails around the city.
With over 60 free events on offer, covering topics ranging from Socrates to the history of knitting, digital technologies to blackout poetry, and the Tudors to puzzles in the (virtual) pub, the programme promises something for all ages and interests.
Headline speakers include journalist Emily Maitlis, the presenter of BBC Two's flagship Newsnight programme; Philip Alston, former United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty; broadcaster and quantum physicist Jim Al-Khalili, Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee; behavioural scientist Pragya Agarwal; V&A Museumís Keeper of the Asian Department, Anna Jackson; and LBC radio presenter and broadcaster Iain Dale.
