York Viking Walk

08 Jan - 26 Dec 2010
York Viking Walk is a thrilling tour around Viking York. It starts with the battle of 867 when the Vikings led by Ivar the Boneless captured York, defeating the two Saxon kings that held it. See where the battle took place and learn about the Vikings' tactics. You will then walk down the streets where the Vikings lived and traded before hearing about the infamous Eric Bloodaxe, the last Viking King of York. The Walk concludes with the events of 1066, when two of the three battles that decided the fate of England took place in or near York and the Vikings were finally defeated. The Walk leaves from behind All Saints Church on Parliament Street, opposite Marks & Spencer - look out for the advertising boards - and lasts approximately 1 hour. It starts at 6pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It costs £4 for adults and £2.50 for children, seniors and concessions. The entertaining tour guide is S P Grey - local author of the bestselling children's books The Last Vikings and The Return of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer.
