19 Grape Lane serves traditional English dishes using local North Yorkshire produce. Situated not far from York Minster in the old quarter of York.
Grape Lane gets its name from 'Grope Lane' which was a name used in the middle ages where prostitutes conducted their business. Number 19 itself used to be a banana warehouse. A snicket/passageway or 'snickleway' as the locals call them, is next to this restaurant, which takes you through to Coffee Yard and Barley Hall before joining Stonegate. York is full of ghost stories and this snickleway is said to be haunted with ghost walks passing most nights.
