Join The Bar Convent as we celebrate Mary Ward (1585-1645); a local woman with a global following. Take part in a brand new activity trail with dressing-up, lemon letters, a game of ‘knucklebones’ and more! Follow the trail to explore our exhibition and discover the extraordinary life and legacy of this iconic historic figure.
Included in admission to the exhibition.
PLUS: Enjoy a new children’s menu launching in February half term.
Please note: Last entry to the exhibition is 4pm. Last orders for food in the café are 2:45pm, with the café closing at 3:30pm.

See the most spectacular Arma Christi medieval scroll in the world- depicting the traditional Easter prayer– on special display at the Bar Convent.
Bring the whole family to discover how this remarkable scroll would have been used to mark Easter 500 years ago and take inspiration from its striking imagery to create your own masterpiece in the crafts corner. With a fascinating exhibition on Catholic history in York, family-friendly interactives and a café and chapel, the Bar Convent is the perfect place to celebrate and discover more about Easter. Included in the exhibition.
The Arma Christi will be on display 28 March- 11 April and 22 June- 5 July.

Gather by candlelight for an atmospheric immersive reading of the Arma Christi which brings the ‘Passion of Christ’ to life. Experience a Middle English recital of this traditional Easter prayer as it would have been spoken 500 years ago. Set within the intimate surroundings of the historic library, a space rarely open to the public, and with an introduction to the Arma Christi prayer scroll in the exhibition- this is a rare opportunity not to be missed.
